NRG Thermal owns and operates NRG Energy Centers – district energy systems and combined heat and power plants – nationwide. All have a strong track record of success, yet each is unique in its configuration and service. Some heat, some cool, some do both – and still others provide steam for industrial processes. Several systems serve one or two large users, while others serve hundreds of customers of all types and sizes within major U.S. cities.

In fact, the Energy Centers in Harrisburg, Minneapolis, Pittsburgh, San Diego and San Francisco together provide district heating and/or cooling to more than 102 million square feet of building space! So we definitely understand the needs of building owners and managers at a wide range of buildings – from hospitals to hotels to commercial office buildings to sports arenas – in a variety of climates.

Our Dover, Paxton Creek and Camas Power Boiler plants further demonstrate the company’s ability to effectively manage complex fuel supplies, acquisition, ownership and outsourcing strategies. We have experience with alternative fuels, such as biomass, and understand the importance of 24/7 service with impeccable reliability. The company also is proud to operate the nation’s longest high-pressure buried steam line and has a large-bore diesel engine services business that reflects our diverse knowledge of large-scale operations.

NRG Thermal LLC is one of the largest third-party steam providers in the United States. Our expertise is energy. We have a rich and solid history, which began with the sale of steam to industrial customers in Minnesota in the early 1980s. Over the years, the company has continued to grow, proving time and time again to be a safe, high-quality and environmentally sound service provider.

And more is in store for NRG Thermal and the Energy Centers. Each year, the Energy Centers add new customers, often laying new pipe to expand their service territories. And NRG Thermal is looking to expand as well by acquiring and operating other district energy systems and plants that serve major manufacturers and industrial parks.
